Wedding Wednesday: Rain Plan

We hoped for sunny skies for last weekend's wedding in Bridgehampton but unfortunately mother nature didn't cooperate and we were forced to go for "plan B", the often dreaded rain plan.

What I realized is that while moving a beach ceremony indoors isn't ideal, the alternative of being caught in a downpour would be much less desirable. In our case the decision was made by a group of seasoned pros who knew that it was better to have a well thought out indoor plan than a chaotic last minute outdoor ceremony with the threat of rain literally looming overhead. And that's just how it happened. The final decision had been made, the stage had been set and as the bride arrived to take her walk down the aisle the rain began to fall outside.

My advice is to hope for the best but to realize that the alternative is definitely not the worst. A rain plan is just that, a plan. It should be well thought out and understood as a real possibility. The decor should be adaptable and your designer should be able to make a few changes for it to appear seamless. Your guests will never know that changes were made at the last minute and you will be just as happy walking down the aisle...even if it is "plan B".

Real Wedding: Doug and Ashley featured on Style Me Pretty

Last week was a teensy bit busy to say the least and this week is gearing up to be another crazy one as we prep for a wedding this weekend.

In the midst of it I was thrilled to share the details of this styled shoot featured on Style Me Pretty. However I failed to post a mention of this amazing real wedding also featured on SMP earlier last week. I feel so lucky to have two features just a few days apart...yay! (Insert happy dance here.)

One of two weddings we worked on during the unforgettable snowstorm of October 2011 the wedding of Ashley and Doug was truly stunning. I loved working with this lovely couple and I'm happy to say that we've continued to work with each other on non-wedding related projects!

Enough from me....take  a look at what Ashley had to say and see all the gorgeous photos captured by Christian Oth Studio.

Summer lovin'

I've been a bit lax in posting lately. It happens every once in awhile when all my creative energy is being put into upcoming projects. When I sit down to write a post I come up empty. I want to give you news about what I've been up to, projects we are working on and insights into my little world of flowers...and I stare at the blank screen.

I can't believe it's August already and that the summer will soon be coming to a close. I designed a beautiful wedding last weekend, it was the wedding of a dear friend from college and his lovely new bride. A summery color pallette and an intimate setting at the City Winery created the perfect evening.

I'm off to the Hamptons next wedding for a beach wedding inspired by all the beauty of eastern Long Island and then we will be heading up to Tarrytown for a tented wedding at the historical Lyndhurst.

It will be a busy couple of weeks and I can't wait to share some of the images over the next few months. In the meantime here are some peeks at what has been heading out the studio doors over the last few weeks.

Thanks for stopping by and taking a peek.

I love how these head garlands turned out using just three elements. Passion vine created the base of the crown with white cymbidium orchids and peach carnations adding color. I attached streamers of white and peach ribbons. One of the brides for this wedding carried a bouquet while the other opted for a wrist corsage. I used a combination of Juliette garden roses, white scabiosa, white lisianthus and the same peach carnations to design the bouquet. Magnolia leaves held special meaning for the couple so I added a few as accents at the base of the bouquet. Regrettably I don't have pictures of the wrist corsage but I used blush callas accented with Magnolia leaves.

LOVE this bouquet for an upcoming project...more details to come.

Stay tuned for more of the prettiness...
